Service and Utility Body Installation
In short: A service body transfers its load and everything in it into the chassis through the mounting, which is why a body bolted down without proper subframe work distorts the frame it sits on within a couple of years.

A service body looks like a box of drawers bolted to a truck. Structurally it is a load-bearing assembly that transfers its own weight plus everything in it, plus anything mounted to it, into the chassis through a small number of mounting points.
Get that transfer wrong and the frame underneath pays for it over a couple of years.
Mounting is the job
The chassis frame is designed to flex. A service body is comparatively rigid. Bolting a rigid structure hard to a flexing one concentrates stress at the mounting points, and the outcomes are cracked mounts, elongated holes, and eventually a frame that is distorted where the body ends.
Proper mounting uses a subframe that allows controlled relative movement, mounting points spread along the frame rather than clustered, isolation where the materials warrant it, and no rigid connection at the point of maximum frame flex.
Bodies that were mounted quickly are the most common structural problem we see on contractor and utility fleets, and by the time it presents as a body sitting crooked, the frame has usually taken damage that requires straightening.
What we do
Service and utility body installation, body swaps from an old chassis to a new one, body repair including doors, compartments, floors and structure, toolbox and cabinet installation, crane and hoist mounting, compressor and generator installation with mounting and electrical integration, ladder rack and material handling installation, lighting and beacon installation, and full outfitting to a written fleet specification.

Body swaps
Bodies routinely outlast the chassis under them. A well-built service body with sound compartments is worth moving to a new truck rather than scrapping, and it saves both money and lead time against ordering new.
What determines feasibility is cab-to-axle dimension, whether mounting points can be adapted, and body condition. We assess all three before quoting, because a swap that requires extensive body repair and a fabricated subframe can cost more than a new body.
Where a swap works, the sequence is remove, inspect and repair the body off the truck where access is best, fabricate or adapt the subframe, mount, then reinstall and integrate electrical, lighting and accessories.
Cranes, compressors and mounted equipment
Anything mounted to a service body applies its loads through the body into the chassis.
Cranes are the significant case. A crane applies a large moment that varies with boom position, and it needs a mount tied into the frame rather than bolted to a body floor. Outrigger loads have to go somewhere too.
Compressors and generators need mounting, vibration isolation, electrical integration, and ventilation. Ventilation is the one most frequently underestimated on an enclosed body, and an inadequately ventilated compressor enclosure runs hot and fails early.
Welders and hydraulic systems on utility trucks need similar treatment plus fuel and hydraulic routing that is protected from chafe.
Municipal and utility specifications
Municipal and utility fleet work usually arrives with a written specification covering lighting configuration, reflective marking, equipment mounting, safety features and sometimes materials.
For that work the documentation matters as much as the build. We work to the written specification, photograph and document the build, and provide the record a fleet manager needs for their files. Handing back a finished truck with no paperwork creates a problem for the customer that is entirely avoidable.

Downtime
A service truck off the road is a crew that cannot work, which usually costs more than the repair.
We schedule around that: realistic completion dates rather than optimistic ones, batching where a fleet has several units needing the same work, and where possible doing the off-vehicle portion of a body job while the truck stays in service.
Estimates are $150 and credited back against an authorized repair.
Electrical capacity on an outfitted truck
The most commonly underestimated part of a service body build is electrical load.
A modern outfitted truck may carry work lighting, beacons, an inverter for power tools, a compressor, a crane, a welder, telematics and a laptop dock. Individually none is remarkable. Together they exceed what a stock charging system was designed to supply, particularly on a vehicle that idles for long periods at a job site rather than running at highway speed where the alternator is most productive.
The result is a truck that kills a battery every eight months and gets a new battery each time rather than a diagnosis.
We size the electrical side against measured load rather than assumption: an auxiliary battery bank where the duty cycle warrants it, a DC to DC charger so the auxiliary bank charges properly without cooking the alternator, correct cable sizing and fusing throughout, and a battery isolator so accessories cannot strand the truck. It costs more at build time and it stops the recurring battery replacement permanently.
